Weed Management

Members of FoF have spent many hours in the reserve removing weeds by hand. Herbicides have been avoided due to risk of contamination of the emu river. Over 40 bags of weeds have been removed over the 2017/18 summer alone. The weeds removed by members of FoF encompass 20 different species, with a number of other weed species threatening to enter the reserve from adjacent areas. Community Awareness and Education

FoF are passionate about involving the community in the long term care of Fernglade Reserve and believe this is an integral factor in conservation management. We believe that raising community awareness about the challenges facing the reserve, as well as providing education about the amazing ecosystem that makes this reserve so special, is the key to empowering the community to make a difference, and to help people understand why they need to look after Fernglade for our future.

FoF undertake a number of community engagement and education activities throughout the year. Details of our most recent efforts and upcoming activities can be found in our newsletter above and on the events page.

FoF place an emphasis on educating future generations. We are proud to be a Children's University Learning Destination.
